How many people actually fit in a seven-seat van

Seven seats is a real number, but it is not the whole story, and the row that decides it is the third one. In a minivan the third row sits low and flat with proper headroom, which is why a twelve-year-old will still ride back there without complaining on the way to Wasaga. The same third row in a mid-size SUV is usually tucked under a sloping tailgate and works out as a short-trip seat for small kids. If you are buying seats you will use every day, that difference matters more than the badge on the hood.

The catch is cargo. With all seven seats up, the space behind the third row in most vans is enough for a grocery run and a stroller, not a week of luggage for seven. Families who genuinely travel seven-up either fold one third-row seat down and carry six, or put a box on the roof. Come and look at the actual space with your actual stroller in your hands. It is the single most useful ten minutes you can spend before signing anything, and it is the thing no spec sheet online will settle for you.

Why sliding doors are a Toronto feature, not a minivan cliché

Anyone who has parked in a downtown underground, a plaza lot off Eglinton, or a two-car driveway in Scarborough already knows the problem: a swing door needs a metre of clear air beside the vehicle, and a five-year-old opening it does not check first. A sliding door needs none. It opens fully in a space where an SUV door opens fifteen centimetres, which means the child gets in without you reversing out of the spot first, and the door beside you keeps its paint.

The same geometry is why loading a car seat is easier. You stand upright in the opening rather than leaning around a half-open door, and the floor is low enough that a toddler can climb in without being lifted. It sounds minor written down. It stops sounding minor around the fourth week of doing it twice a day in February.

What the kilometres mean on a late-model van

On a van that is only a few years old that is highway distance, not hard city life — vans of this age and mileage are typically coming off leases and fleet duty, which means regular scheduled servicing rather than deferred maintenance. Why these are not the cheapest vans in the GTA

They are not, and we would rather say so here than have you discover it on a listing site. There is a large market in older, higher-kilometre vans, and if the lowest possible purchase price is what matters most, that market is where you should be looking — not here.

What you get for the difference is a vehicle only a few years old with factory warranty life remaining, a documented history, a safety certification and an all-in price that does not grow at the counter. For a family that needs the van to start every morning for the next six years, that trade is usually the right one. For a second vehicle doing eight thousand kilometres a year, it may well not be.
